In an effort to continue creating meaningful community relationships, and to address the issues facing young adults, we have challenged each Y2Y committee to plan a celebratory Y2Y Week event and invite a nearby high school to participate.
Suggested events include:
• Holding a peace walk to commemorate the International Day of Peace (Friday, Sept. 21).
• Hosting a guest speaker to discuss the importance of peaceful communities.
• Holding a gallery show to display artistic works (by students) around the topic of peace.
• Coordinating a volunteer community service opportunity for students and community members.
When contacting area high schools, Y2Y teams should consider coordinating with specific groups or teams that share Y2Y’s mission. If no high school exists in the immediate vicinity of a participating center, they may partner with another Y2Y committee that has one nearby. They may also partner with a local college or community college as well.
Helpful planning materials will become available on the Y2Y website soon; but in the meantime, committees can begin planning how they would like to celebrate.
The annual Y2Y Week planning webinar will be held Thursday, Aug. 2, from 3–4 p.m. ET. All staff and students are encouraged to attend.
Thursday, Aug. 2 @ 2–3 p.m. Central, 3–4 p.m. Eastern.
